In the first three months of 2024 the Italian gross domestic product grew by 0.3% compared to the last quarter of 2023, in line with the euro area average. Istat communicates this based on preliminary estimates. Compared to the same period in 2023, the increase is 0.6%. The data is corrected for calendar effects and seasonally adjusted and marks the third consecutive positive change, after the decline recorded in the second quarter of 2023. The push for growth has arrived from all three major production sectors: agriculture, industry and services. On the demand side, domestic consumption decreases, while exports grow.

At this point, the change acquired (i.e. the data that would be obtained at the end of the year in the event of a zero sign in the next quarters, ed) of Italian GDP for 2024 is equal to +0.5%. The Italian government has indicated in the Economic and Financial Document a growth of 1% for 2024, the Bank of Italy forecasts +0.6%, the International Monetary Fund indicates +0.7%%. Also throughout the euro area GDP grew by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter, figure higher than expected. This was announced by Eurostat based on the first flash estimate. In the fourth quarter of 2023, a decline in Eurozone GDP of 0.1% was recorded. Among data from individual countries France recorded +0.2%, Spain +0.7%, Germany +0.2%.
