Massa is in difficulty, Carrara tries to take over the Il Tirreno Police Headquarters

Carrara The nearby Massa has difficulty in identifying an area shared by the community suitable for the new police headquarters, and so the city council, practically unanimously (the only abstention, motivated as we will see, that of the mayor Serena Arrighi) proposes to host the important institution, thanks also to the recent recognition of capital city like Massa.

The opposition councilor Filippo Mirabella presented the motion on the subject, who among other things, in the introduction, recalls that «thanks to article 3 of Legislative Decree no. 7 of 25 January 2024, our city has had the deserved recognition as provincial capital” and, on the occasion, “Mayor Arrighi had commented on the recognition as provincial capital by declaring that the government had formalized what is the reality of our territory and that it was evaluating what practical changes this investiture would entail official”. And, therefore, «Carrara, after 165 years, could finally have the possibility of being recognized for the opportunity of having the headquarters of an important State Institution, such as the Police Headquarters of Massa and Carrara». Mirabella also puts forward a proposal: «The San Martino area behind the headquarters of the Municipal Police and the Justice of the Peace could be the ideal place for its construction».

It is then remembered that «the Government had allocated a sum of 30 million euros for the construction of the new Police Headquarters in the city of Massa but, after months of waiting, the mayor of Massa, lawyer. Francesco Persiani, has not yet managed to find the right territorial location.” The reference is to the former Bank of Italy, the former Finance Office in Viale Europa and now in a part of the Parco degli Ulivi, with this last solution being strongly opposed by the population and the opposition.

And he concludes by explaining that building the new police station would be a real opportunity for our city. Hence, the motion with which the city council commits the mayor to evaluate all the possibilities so that “institutional actions can, in every appropriate forum, promote the creation of the new police headquarters in the city of Carrara, the provincial capital”.

Alberta Musetti (PRI) spoke on behalf of the majority and said she was in favor, adding however that it would be appropriate to think about the choice of site when there is certainty of this opportunity. The mayor justified her abstention «out of respect for the prefect, the police commissioner, the administration of Massa, with whom I have not yet interfaced, and who I know are taking action to seek a definitive solution for Massa. However, I am committed to taking action for Carrara as soon as I am certain of the existence of this opportunity”.
