Rehabilitative value of punishmentawareness and training for self-employment and concrete possibility of active reintegration into society at the end of detention, thanks to the project and the national and European model Yes I Start Up (YISU) Calabria promoted by the Calabria Region with the National Microcredit Agency, the pilot experiment started in 2022 in the Corigliano-Rossano Prison House.

The President of the National Microcredit Authority presented the results, methods and replicability on a national scale Mario Baccini during his speech as part of the ZERO RECIDENCE event, in the presence of the president of the National Council of Economy and Labor CNEL Renato Brunetta and the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio.

How economic and micro financial education can represent an opportunity for the reintegration of prisoners. This was the heart of the report presented by President Boccini. Among the primary tasks of the National Microcredit Authority (ENM) – he underlined – is that of taking every initiative suitable to promote social and financial inclusion of the most vulnerable people and with extreme difficulty in accessing credit, such as those deprived of their personal freedom and those who have recently finished serving their prison sentence.

Baccini confirmed ENM’s willingness to collaborate in the implementation of system projects that promote social and work reintegration of these subjects and allow us to prevent deviance phenomena and risks of recidivism. In the wake of the interinstitutional agreement signed between the CNEL and the Ministry of Justice in June 2023, the National Microcredit Body has stipulated a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Justice, aimed in particular at promoting financial education, culture business and the social and financial inclusion of people serving the final part of their prison sentence within a prison facility, of those serving alternative sentences outside prison, as well as former prisoners.

The pilot training experiment started in the Corigliano-Rossano penitentiary facility coordinated by Lenin Montesanto – Communication & Lobbying among the YISU implementers in Calabria, which was followed by those held in the Ugo Caridi prison in Siano/Catanzaro, involved 30 inmates for a total of 2300 hours. “Among the objectives for which an important new synergy is underway with the Corigliano-Rossano prison directed by Luigi Spetrillo – let it be known Francesca Felice training manager of Montesanto Sas – there is also the hypothesis, currently under study, of open any start-ups within the prison structure and compatible with it”.
