Above all, it was explained how the tensile structure currently used as a departure area costs 19 thousand euros per month, over 220 thousand per year and will soon be replaced. “We are illustrating the things done in just 30 months, but there are many dossiers on which we are working, with my councilors, for the future – said Occhiuto.
The works in Lamezia will be completed within a few weeks
“Within a few weeks – explained Occhiuto – the work will be finished and the new block will replace the current gate tent, which will be even further than now. We have started work from this first block and will then continue with the other airports. Here in Lamezia this block it will be used to replace that horrible curtain and to have the possibility of new gates which will have to be additional to those that were there before at the airport, because as you know we are increasing the number of flights. I would like to point out – added Occhiuto – that for that tent, the airport management company, Sacal, had been paying 19 thousand euros a month for years, more than 220 thousand euros a year and in my opinion it was the wrong way to make Calabri knownto».
“Work that gives dignity to the airport”
The sole director of Sacal was also present Marco Franchini vwho explained how these work “they finally give dignity to the infrastructure which had not really been valorised in the past. The salient features that the president wanted were linearity, light, the use of raw materials and attention to the environment. And this is what we tried to do with the use of important beams, with a span of 30 meters which will also allow us to manage different functions within this space which from now until the end of June can be used as a boarding gate and which has been engineered. It is a very sober element but it gives an impact, which wants to represent a new sign of Calabria, a sign of take-off, a truly strong input that we can only do with the resources that our shareholder has given us. In the boarding area there is a service area with bars and restaurants, nursery and other services”.
