Dear Commissioners,

I would like to remind you that article 1, paragraph 4, of the law establishing the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the phenomenon of mafias and other criminal associations, including foreign ones, establishes that the representatives of the parties, political formations, movements and civic lists that join to the self-regulation rules, referred to in c. 1 letter i) of the same article, regarding the formation of the lists of candidatures for the European, political, regional, municipal and district elections, may transmit to the Commission, with the consent of the interested parties, the provisional lists of candidatures.

To allow the Commission to verify the existence of any conditions hindering candidatures pursuant to the aforementioned self-regulation code, with regard to the names transmitted in the provisional lists of candidatures, the law provides that the transmission takes place within the seventy-fifth day prior to the date established for the holding of the same elections.

The aforementioned regulation, which provides for a voluntary procedure, was only recently introduced into the legal system. Therefore, I underline the importance of it being made known in a widespread and widespread way among interested parties, through the most appropriate and effective initiatives.
