3 winning projects of the 2024 Puglia call

TRAC – Widespread Theater Residency Centreborn from the synergy between the suburbs of the Puglia Region -, Assitej Italia – national presidium of the largest world network of children’s theater -, Theater between generations – Artists in the Territories of the Tuscany Region project – and Fondazione SAT – organizer of the historic Maggio all’Festival childhood – have identified, among the numerous proposals received, the winning projects of the 2024 edition of the call for artistic residencies dedicated to artistic research projects dedicated to the new generations.

Colacino-Mencagli, Simona Gambaro/Meraki.Teatro, Sonia Franzolin/Cie labolla & Tina Aretano they are the selected companies that have presented highly innovative projects, open to different scenic languages ​​and glimmers of research and contamination with the territory, aimed at the entire reference target, made up of young spectators (0-10 years).

The informal Colacino-Mencagli group, born from the meeting between Roberta Colacino, actress, puppeteer and voice talent and Gaia Mencagli, Italian-Danish theater artist, will be in residence with the Il nose project which intends to train and stimulate the olfactory intelligence of adults and children, building an installation olfactory experience to inhabit, a sort of interactive library of smells designed specifically for girls aged 5 to 10. A performance will also be created within the installation that guides the public to discover the smells and the worlds they contain.

Assignee of the interregional residency between Puglia and Tuscany, Piume by Simona Gambaro/Meraki.Teatro it is the story of a short but intense meeting, interrupted by the premature expiration of their time. The story of someone who leaves too soon, and of someone who stays, will be told, with as much simplicity as possible. Of what’s in that time in between. Of death, cold but sweet, like ice cream. Piume is an original dramaturgy freely, irreverently and lovingly inspired by the poetic writing of Wislawa Szymborska, by Simona Gambaro, active for over 20 years in the theatrical field as an interpreter, playwright and director, with shows performed in Italy and abroad.

One of us many us many of us one of many is the project edited by Sonia Franzolin/cie labolla & Tina Aretano: an idea of ​​a play-show experience around wool and its raw state, the yarns and threads of the mycelium, which tells the journey of a felt character in search of a similar one. Through the manipulation and transformation of wool, spectators will be involved in an experiential journey that transforms perceptions: boys and girls will be immersed in a magical scenario thanks to plays of light, matter and shadows. La cie labolla was born in Nice in 2013, founded by Sonia Franzolin and deals with cultural artistic education projects, (for schools, cultural institutions), the production of shows with puppets and objects, and the development of cross-border projects.

The selected projects will be hosted in residence for a total of 15 days, not necessarily continuous, at one or more TRAC hubs (Campi Salentina/Novoli, Melendugno/Lecce, Taranto, Ruvo di Puglia/Castellana, Manfredonia) between July and December 2024 and will benefit from the tutoring of La Casa dello Spectatore. One of the selected projects will also be hosted in residence for a further 15 days, at an Artists’ hub in the Tuscan territories of the Theater between generations project (Empoli, Barberino di Mugello, Lastra a Signa), thus taking advantage of an interregional residency lasting a total of thirty days.
