Turin, Andrea Villa’s new anti-war manifesto shows arsonist presidents

TURIN – A new manifesto by Andrea Villa appeared during the night in Turin. There are two billboards: in Corso San Maurizio 40 and in Via Catania 58. It is a tough stance against the war. In fact, the poster shows a house on fire and in the foreground you can see the protagonists of the ongoing wars toasting. Putin, Biden, Netanyahu and Ebrahim Raisi they appear serene and smiling while the world is being devastated around them.

“There pyromania– explains the artist – from the Greek πῦρ (pyr, fire) and μανία (mania), is an intense obsession with fire, flames, explosives in general and related effects, which often occurs with intentional starting of fires.
Fire is used only to induce euphoria, and those affected by this syndrome often have ties to institutions that control fire. Since 1850, various assumptions have been made about the causes of pyromania: whether the condition of being an arsonist arose from a mental illness rather than from poor morality/deviance are hypotheses that have been modified depending on the developments in psychiatry and the treatment of illnesses mental in general.”

“There is generally tension or excitement before the action itself,” concludes Andrea Villa, “and gratification or relief afterwards: the patient acts for his own good, without any other motivation: in some cases it is just the pleasure of seeing what one’s actions cause in other people, the behaviors necessary to extinguish the fires unleashed: sometimes there is also the pleasure of reading in newspapers or hearing the media talk about one’s actions and the effects.”
