New Syracuse basketball commit Jyáre Davis, a four-star prospect who is transferring from Delaware to the ‘Cuse, says he just wants to win in his one season on the Hill.
Davis, a high-scoring and versatile forward who averaged 17 points per game as a senior for the Blue Hens, announced his commitment to the Orange via social media on Monday night. His pledge gives him the ‘Cuse critical depth at the forward positions.
The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Davis, in an interview with 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham, echoed some sentiments of other Syracuse basketball commits who will join the Orange for the 2024-25 campaign.
They want to win. They want to contend for an Atlantic Coast Conference title. They want to help lead Syracuse basketball back to the NCAA Tournament following a three-year absence from March Madness. And they want to propel the ‘Cuse back to its glory days, when the program annually competed for conference crowns, high seeds in the Big Dance, and runs deep in March and even into early April.
In his interview with Branham, Davis said in part, “Moreso than just any jumpshot that I make or any rebound, I think Syracuse is going to get someone that wants to win day in and day out. I want to help get Syracuse back to the legendary tradition that it has.”
Davis, who visited the Orange program this past weekend and committed shortly thereafter, noted that some players who enter the portal are looking for NIL deals, but for him, “I wanted to chase a bigger stage, an opportunity to continue to prove myself as a basketball player and all of those things were provided by coach Red (Adrian Autry) at Syracuse.”
I have to say, I love Jyáre’s mentality. He is one of at least four commits to date in the Orange’s 2024 recruiting class, inclusive of both college transfers and high school seniors.
The other three are Colorado senior center Eddie Lampkin Jr., 2024 five-star power forward Donnie Freeman from Washington, DC, and 2024 four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore from New York City.
The four-star transfer Lampkin, since announcing his commitment to the ‘Cuse not too long ago, has proven quite enthusiastic on social media in embracing his new collegiate home. In 2023-24, he helped guide Colorado to the No. 3 spot in the Pac-12 Conference regular-season standings, and Lampkin was a key contributor as the Buffaloes won two games in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Moore, who put forth a fabulous senior season and is a top-10 shooting guard in the senior cycle, has said in numerous interviews since pledging to the Orange that he’s excited to put on a ‘Cuse uniform and do whatever he can to help lead Syracuse basketball to more and more victories in the future.
Freeman, meanwhile, is rated the No. 10 national prospect and the No. 1 power forward by On3 in the 2024 class. All he’s done in high school is win. As a junior, he was pivotal as St. John’s College High School in DC captured the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (“WCAC”) tournament championship.
Last summer, Freeman and his colleagues with the Washington-based Team Takeover won the coveted Peach Jam title on Nike’s EYBL circuit in the 17U division.
In 2023-24, as a senior at the powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Freeman was an All-League performer as the Ascenders were invited earlier this month to the eight-team Chipotle Nationals in Brownsburg, Ind., an annual event that crowns a national champion in high school hoops.
These four Syracuse basketball 2024 commits are proven winners and have a winner’s mindset. They will be vital to the Orange’s success in the next term.
