The portico of a small church on the outskirts of Vicenza was literally knocked down by a truck which crashed into the sacred building after the driver lost control.
The accident occurred around 11.10 am, at the beginning of Strada Marosticana in the small church of San Giovanni Battista. The truck driver and a passenger were slightly injured.
The heavy vehicle was traveling towards the center of Vicenza when, for reasons still under investigation, it ended up on the opposite side of the road, knocking down the portico. The firefighters, who arrived from the station, made the vehicle safe, while the driver and passenger managed to get out independently and were taken care of by the Suem medical staff. Operations to recover the truck are still underway.
