Paris, 30 April. A fire caused three victims in the middle of the night in Paris in an apartment building in the 2nd arrondissement, in the center of the capital. Le Figaro writes this citing police sources. A second fire, in which one person died, occurred in the 15th arrondissement. The firefighters intervened at 4.30 am near 17 boulevard des Italiens, on the 6th and 7th floors of the building, which is mainly made up of offices but also apartments and service rooms on the top floor. According to initial information, the origin of the fire, which spread in the stairwell, was a gas leak in an apartment on the 7th floor. Three people were found dead in this apartment just before 8am this morning. They have not yet been identified. A fourth person was injured.

The fire was put out in the morning and the firefighters then managed to remove the bodies of the victims who were unable to get out of the window “due to the anti-intrusion bars which made rescue impossible” by the firefighters, according to prefect Laurent Nuñez. “A dozen other people staying on the same floor were rescued by firefighters who managed to enter through the roof,” said district mayor Ariel Weil. 180 firefighters were mobilized on the Boulevard des Italians. An investigation has been opened and has been entrusted at this stage to the Central Paris police station.

As for the fire that occurred in the 15th arrondissement, in the south-west of the capital, “a person in his sixties was found dead” and three others were hospitalized, added the prefect, specifying that the cause of the flames was “accidental”. The deceased person is a woman, according to another police source, who specifies that “the fire appears to have started” in her home. 60 firefighters responded to the scene. The investigation into the causes of death and injuries has been entrusted to the local police station.
