ROME – It will be presented at the national library on Italian Judaism “Tullia Zevi” in via Lungotevere Sanzio n. 5 in Rome at 6 pm on Tuesday 16 April the research entitled “Jews in Abruzzo between Angevins and Aragonese XIII – XVI”. The study, financed by the Foundation for Jewish Cultural Heritage in Italy, arose from the visit carried out in the village of Civitaretenga by the president of the Foundation Dario Disegno. “The complex called – Jewish Ghetto – has recently been the subject of works for recovery after the 2009 earthquake”, said the mayor of Navelli (L’Aquila) Paolo Federico, “its particular architecture and its history preserve important elements for tracing the profound link between the territory and the Jews. We are sure that the research work carried out will be a first step to give new life to the history of Abruzzo and the Jews”.
The study starts from an analysis of the Abruzzo region, exploring the economic context, the society and the relationships between the Jews of Abruzzo and the central Angevin and Aragonese power.
