The traditional May Day demonstration has started in Milan. For 2024, Cgil, Cisl and Uil have chosen the slogan ‘Let’s build together a Europe of peace, work and social justice’. The unions dedicated the day to the role of Europe in a complex historical moment between environmental, social crises and wars underway a few steps from Italy.
Also present at the procession was the metropolitan Democratic Party represented by the secretary Alessandro Capelli and some exponents. In Piazza della Scala, where the procession will end, a series of interventions are planned starting from the concert by Omar Pedrini and his band scheduled for 12.30. The delegates and general secretaries of CGIL, Luca Stanzione, of CISL, Carlo Gerla and of UIL Enrico Vizza will speak.
In the afternoon there will be the procession of antagonistic realities, departing from Ticinese, which is expected to be joined by the Palestinian communities.
Route and ATM lines diverted
The procession, which started at 9.30, will follow the route from San Babila, Corso Matteotti, Piazza Meda, Via Catena, Largo Mattioli, Via Case Rotte until reaching Piazza della Scala around 12.
Tram 1 towards Greco deviates from Cordusio to viale Tunisia. The one towards Roserio deviates from viale Vittorio Veneto to via Cusani.
