Highlights | Cinema program
Here are the films not to be missed on this sixth day of the Festival.

In Competition, we highlight The Great White Whale by Michael Dillon (Multisala Modena, Room 3, 9.15 pm), the extraordinary story, in Italian premiere, of two expeditions in the middle of the Southern Ocean, to climb a snow-capped volcano, 2,745 meters high, rising out of the sea like a great white whale. Let it Bärn by Hannes Tell (Supercinema Vittoria, 7pm) is a national premiere short film that tells the story of the genesis of a bouldering movement in Bern, the capital of Switzerland: a sort of “counterculture” that develops secretly with the intention not to limit climbing to the big international stages.

The Destination… Ireland section will host two of the three Cincontri scheduled today. The first with Mary and the midnight spirit by Enzo D’Alò (Multisala Modena, Room 2, 4.45 pm), one of the international masters of animation, who will talk about the genesis and development of his latest film, inspired by a story by the Irish writer Roddy Doyle. The second will be with the two Italian previews Für Bettina by Adrian Duncan and North Circular by Luke McManus (Multisala Modena, Sala 2, 7pm), with the two directors discussing their respective films and the Irish scenarios they are inspired by.

Among the special screenings, we remember another, highly anticipated appointment with the Cincontri column: Erri De Luca will in fact be present in the room during the national preview screening of the film in which he is the protagonist, The Experimental Age by Marco Zingaretti (Supercinema Vittoria, 8.45pm). De Luca and the director will reflect together with Fausto De Stefani on the reasons that pushed them to tell through this documentary the way in which the Neapolitan writer and climber is dealing with advancing age. Also for the Special Screenings section, Flavio Paolucci. From Guelmin to Biasca by Villi Hermann (Multisala Modena, Room 1, 3pm, in the presence of the director) is the Italian premiere story of the ephemeral artistic gesture conceived by the Swiss painter Flavio Paolucci: that is, creating a large mural work in his own studio, to then destroy it.

If the first testifies to the story of the Kurdish carpenter Hussein Mahmood, who in a remote mountainous region of Iran, searches for the best wood with which to create prosthetic legs intended for the victims of anti-personnel mines, the second is the portrait of a valley on the border between Italy and France, which has always been a land of transit, where the lives of migrants and those of reception center workers intersect.
