May 1st, Workers’ Day. But some shops and supermarkets will still remain open in Florence too.
Let’s start with the supermarkets. On the two largest realities in Florence, Esselunga and Coopno doubt: their points of sale will be closed.
More complex to outline the choices of Carrefour. There are no hypermarkets of the chain in the city, but only Carrefour Express, stores that self-manage as regards opening hours.
The supermarket of via Salutati It will remain open continuously from 8am to 9.30pm. The one in the center of village of Albizi from 9am to 8pm. The one in via Il Prato from 8am to 11.30pm.
The trend for the chain is to always be open during the holidays, but for the opening hours the reference store should be considered. One of the largest supermarkets in the chain Conadthe one in via Pistoiese, will be open to customers continuously between 8am and 8pm. The other Conad stores should also all be usable, although perhaps with slightly different opening hours.
Legnaia Cooperative also open for May 1st.
There Lidl in via D’Annunzio, in Coverciano, it will be open regularly from 8.30am to 9pm. The same goes for the stores in via Toselli, via Dei, via Giuliani, via Cortona and via Baracca. There may just be half an hour variations. For example, the Lidl store in via Dei will close at 9pm instead of 9.30pm.
THE Penny Market Florentines will have practically unchanged hours. For May 1st the stores in via Burchiello, via Palazzo dei Diavoli and via Balducci will be open from 8.30am to 1.30pm. Via Erbosa will instead have two shifts: 8.30am-1pm and 3.30pm-8pm.
Via Lanzi and via dell’Argangolo will be open in the morning at the same times, but will be open for an extra half hour in the afternoon, closing at 8pm.
Shopping centers chapter.
THE Lilies will lower the shutters for May 1st.
The Mall instead it will remain accessible from 10am to 7pm.
The shopping center of Bridge in Greve will remain closed, like that of Gavinana.
Partially open, on the contrary, the center of San Donato in Novoli: activities such as Tezenis, Marina Militare, the Barroccino ice cream shop, Capatoast in Piazza Ugo di Toscana, The Space cinema and the Dispensa Verace pizzeria will certainly be open to visitors. On the contrary, Virgin closed.
Saint Lawrence it will be closed on the ground floor, i.e. the “Florentine” floor where fruit, vegetables and meat are sold for shopping. The first floor, however, which has a more tourist vocation with ready meals, will normally remain open with the usual opening hours from 9am to midnight.
The Sant’Ambrogio marketon the contrary, will be closed.
For natural shopping centers the trend is more or less identical in all districts of Florence. Virginia Rodriguez, president of that of via Maggio, explains that no common line was found between the shops on the street: «We will have 50% of shops open and 50% of shops closed. Weather forecasts that call for rain don’t encourage people to put up their banners on a holiday.”
Edoardo Boccherini of the natural shopping center of Pier Vettori square he announced that «almost all businesses will remain closed. We work with residents, very little with tourists. The only exceptions are for bars and restaurants, but not all, for example the Francesconi bar usually always closes on May 1st.”
Also Stefano Decina from the natural shopping center of Dalmatia square confirms that «our shops are always closed for May 1st, with very few exceptions».
More or less the same music in via Giobertiwhere the president of the Ccn Duccio Gionni announces that he has carried out a survey among traders «finding confirmation that almost all the commercial establishments will remain closed, except for bars and restaurants and some activities that tend to always remain open on Sundays such as Intimissimi, Calzedonia or Tezenis.”
Marzio Cinelli of the Ccn of via Romana explains that the food sector and markets will remain open, while on shopping “there is no homogeneous vision and as usual there will be at least half of the shops closed”.
