Mafia, politics and controversy. It continues to stir up new and long-lived ones “Bari case”, for which the Access Commission was appointed by the Interior Ministry, with the task of verifying the alleged existence of mafia infiltration and possibly dissolving the city’s municipal council.

“That PD that today talks about the situation in Bari, shouting scandal and defining it as a clear political attack, is the party that started the destruction of Reggio Calabria”. The former mayor of Reggio Calabria spoke in an interview with the newspaper ‘Il Tempo’ Demetrius Arena who, in 2012, saw his Municipality, just 17 months after taking office, be dissolved by the then minister Annamaria Cancellieri due to mafia contiguity.

A Democratic Party “speculator, fueler of media pillorying, cause of what was the beginning of everything”, describes Arena. “The municipal administration of Reggio Calabria was sent home without any member of the executive being investigated or investigated. There was no outcry in favor of me and my city.”

Today, acquitted after twelve years, the former mayor Arena also speaks about the law that regulates the dissolution of Municipalities: “It is not possible to decree the dissolution of a municipality only on suspicion and for preventive purposes” – he declared to ‘Il Tempo’. “Should it happen in Bari, which I hope doesn’t happen, it certainly won’t happen because of the famous photo with the relatives of the alleged boss, which is now used only to divert attention from the heart of the problem. I hope that the Meloni executive will quickly modify this opprobrious law. He has the courage and authority to restore the rule of law.” – he concludes.
