Track and field athletics, the IIS “Luigi Palma” teams triumph at the Student Championships
The women’s track and field athletics team of the IIS “Luigi Palma” of Corigliano-Rossano is provincial champion in the student category and directly accesses the regional phase of the student championships to be held in Crotone, where it will represent the province of Cosenza.
The result achieved at the end of the provincial final held on Wednesday 27 March at the Campo Scuola in via degli Stadi, in Cosenza, was brilliant, where the students brought home a very respectable haul: three gold medals, one silver, two bronzes and first place in the relay, where they dominated without rivals. A success that rewards the determination, discipline and dedication that the team – made up of students Alessia Imma Lasso, Adriana Georgiana Niculae, Immacolata Pipieri, Matilde Maria Pirillo, Giulia Santella, Angela Schiavonea Santo, Rossella Montalto and Giuliana Quarta – was able to achieve emerge at every stage of the competition.
The men’s team also shone in the student category, winning two gold medals: student Giustino Gino Pio dominated in the long jump, while student Jesse Nosakhare John triumphed in the shot put. Like their teammates, they too will have the opportunity to compete in the regional stage, carrying the name and honor of their school high. The teachers of Physical Education and Sports Disciplines – prof. Giorgio Esposito, Peppino Giovazzino, Francesco Florio and Giovanni Longobucco – who accompanied and prepared the teams in the various phases of the competition.
The Headmaster Dr. Cinzia D’Amico expressed her pride in the successes achieved by the students, congratulating the two teams and underlining the importance of sport in transmitting noble values such as discipline, determination and respect.
