Great achievement by Valdinievole Montecatini who conquered the Oliveti di Massa stadium and placed themselves behind Lanciotto in the playout fight. Mister Pellegrini’s boys surprised a Massese team that had to win to chase the playoffs from which it is now mathematically out. Pellegrini’s cure really works for the Spa: fifth useful result since the coach’s return to the blue and white bench. These three points really weigh a lot. everything really went as it should have gone for the spa team: success in Massa and simultaneous defeat of Lanciotto Campi in Ponte Buggianese and the overtaking in the rankings is a done deal. A significant detail, because if Montecatini manages to maintain this position on the last day, they will have the advantage of home advantage in the playout match against Lanciotto.
The news. Fiery start for the spa team who are already on target in the 3rd minute with their center forward Ba who heads Bacci’s cross from the left with a nice twist. Massese had the great opportunity to equalize in the 18th minute but Buffa had the penalty he himself had awarded saved by kicking it centrally. In the 20th minute the thermals are very dangerous on the restart. Paci must perform a double miracle by first opposing Ba’s close shot and then Bibaj’s safe rebound. However, it is the locals who play the game and hit the woodwork of the opponent’s goal twice. In the 30th minute Buffa, assisted by Terigi, hits the post directly. In the 37th minute a fireball from inside the area by Cornacchia causes the top corner to shake.
At the beginning of the second half another crossbar arrives: Fedi intervenes on a cross from Cornacchia, risking an own goal. Massese goes out from distance and Montecatini becomes dangerous again after a throw-in in the 73rd minute but Paci performs another double feat on Gamberucci’s shot and Ba’s two-step rebound. The goalkeeper has a defaillance in the 80th minute, returning the ball to the new substitute Liberto who scores. He only counts on a personal level Buffa’s injury time goal which rises to 19.
