The works for the construction of the Ro-Ro Terminal of the Canale Port of Cagliari officially enter the operational phase. Today, a few days ahead of the deadlines set by the National Plan for complementary investments to the PNRR, the signing of the report of delivery of the works to the group of companies, made up of RCM Costruzioni Srl, Fincosit Srl, Società Italiana Dragaggi Spa and Impresa Pellegrini Srl, winner of the contract worth approximately 290 million euros (out of an overall economic framework of almost 338 million). Green light for the first phase of work, therefore, and for the gradual spending, which must be completed by 30 June 2026, of the 99.35 million euros covered by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. In fact, from next Wednesday, the area dedicated to construction site logistics will be set up with the start of all environmental mitigation and compensation activities. Among these, the pruning and transplanting of a large number of species present in the intervention area (tamarisk, wild olive and lentisk), part of which will already be planted in green areas, while others will be hosted in temporary nurseries which will be created within the same construction site areas. At the same time, we will proceed with the land reclamation of the outport areas (for the seaside part this has already been carried out before the publication of the tender notice). To follow, the impressive interventions for the realization, from scratch, of the commercial port, which must be completed within 1750 natural and consecutive days. As per the project, the work, located in the western sector of the Canal Port, includes a total of 6 moorings, an 11 meter seabed maneuvering basin, and will be divided into 5 yards which will host approximately 2500 stalls for the parking of semi-trailers, including 52 for the parking of dangerous goods. It will be served by a dedicated passenger terminal, structured on two levels. On the ground floor (approximately 1800 square metres) there is a public area with a waiting room, customs and security checks, services, and a reserved area for ticket offices, law enforcement offices, maritime health and first aid clinic . On the upper floor (approximately 1200 m2) the AdSP offices will be housed and a catering business will be able to enjoy a panoramic terrace which will be accessible, even directly from the boarding lanes, by passengers with cars in tow. Next to the maritime station, the project in competition includes two other buildings at the access to the customs gates, dedicated to the control activities of the relevant bodies. The compendium will, therefore, be the new point of reference for the port cluster and will be well connected to the city through the local public transport system and the external road system, thanks to the intervention to complete the internal port road system, financed with 10 million euros PNRR-ZES funds, the work of which is already underway and will be completed by the first half of 2025. “A few days ahead of the deadline set by the PNRR we formally hand over the keys to the construction site for the construction of the most impressive port project to date on the island – says Massimo Deiana, President of the AdSP of the Sea of ​​Sardinia – A historic result which, thanks to the extraordinary work of the structure, which I thank once again, was carried out in full compliance with the deadlines. The works, which will continue for the next 5 years, will allow the creation of the master plan for the port of Cagliari with the transfer of commercial traffic to the Canal Port and the total conversion of the historic one for cruise ships and pleasure boating”.
