PISA. At the inauguration of the new headquarters in Rome, the pharmaceutical company Takeda also announced a further investment of 30 million euros for the production sites in Pisa (Ospedaletto) and Rieti. The investment plan for the period 2020-2025 thus rises to 350 million euros. Of the new allocation of 30 million euros, 10 are aimed at digitalisation and advanced industrial automation; 20 are instead dedicated to environmental, social and governance sustainability initiatives, with new technologies aimed at reducing CO2 emissions by 40% by 2025, «taking a step forward – claims the company – towards the final objective of becoming a company with net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.”

This was announced by Anna Maria Bencini, general manager of Takeda Italia, together with Francesca Micheli, general manager of Takeda Manufacturing, which manages the industrial hub of Rieti and Pisa, and in the presence of the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri and the ambassador of Japan in Italy, Suzuki Satoshi.

Takeda also defines the expansion of the production hubs in Rieti and Pisa as “central”. The Rieti plant, fully approved for export to the main world markets, already contributes over 70% of the exports of the entire manufacturing sector of the province. Lazio and Tuscany are, in fact, among the top three Italian regions for pharmaceutical exports and represent two districts of absolute excellence, with over 110 pharmaceutical companies that generate a turnover of more than 14 billion euros and employ more than 25 thousand employees.

«The Takeda industrial center is one of the most important biotech production companies in the country, a leader in plasma processing – says Micheli -. The challenge we take up and make ours is to be constantly agile and efficient, focusing on technological innovation, sustainability and digital transformation to give value, more and more every day, to every single plasma donation. We have confidence in the future of the Italian pharmaceutical sector and we will continue to invest in Italy to increase production and optimize the availability of medicines.”
