The warnings of Kim Jong Unthe military responses of South Korea And United States. The situation continues to be extremely delicate on the Korean peninsula where, below the 38th parallel, joint exercises between Washington and Seoul have just ended. In recent days the two allies have become protagonists of a demonstration action that is impossible to ignore. In the skies above the Pilsung firing range, South Korean and US air forces carried out a simulated attack on North Korean ballistic missile launchers Transporter Erector Launcher (TEL) using laser-guided bombs GBU-12 Paveway II. A video released on social media, which immediately went viral, offers a glimpse into the precision and lethality of the entire operation.

USA-South Korea: the simulated attack with laser-guided bombs

The F-35A of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) and the F-16C of that of the United States (USAF) have become protagonists of ajoint exercise live fire training. Specifically, the two partner countries carried out a simulated attack against strategic objectives using laser-guided bombs. In the above-mentioned video, a South Korean aircraft is seen dropping an inert GBU-12. With remarkable precision the bomb “found” its moving target, which on this occasion played the role of a North Korean Transporter Erector Launcher (TEL) ballistic missile. The perfectly successful operation demonstrated the effectiveness of ammunition in neutralizing high-value targets with maximum precision.

South Korea purchased GBU-12 bombs from the United States as part of the F-35A package. The GBU-12 Paveway II, derived from the Mk 82 500-pound multipurpose bomb, incorporates a laser sight mounted on the nose and fins for guidance, improving its accuracy and lethality. In particular, the site explained Eurasiantimes, the Enhanced-GBU-12 (EGBU-12) variant offers dual-mode functionality, combining GPS-assisted navigation with precise laser guidance to ensure operational effectiveness in all weather conditions. This advanced technology equips the ROKAF and USAF with a Versatile weapon system capable of engaging moving targets with unmatched precision.

A message for Kim

The training program between South Korea and the United States, which often also involves personnel from Marine Corps US, focuses on improving interoperability between the two partner countries, refining precision strike capabilities and conducting simulated combat scenarios, including search and rescue operations and mass parachute drops. Also because, in the meantime, the North Korea proceeds with the improvement of its military programs.

Pyongyang’s recent shows of force have coincided with the launch of increasingly powerful missiles capable, theoretically, of hitting targets located within the territory of the continental United States or strategic enemy positions located in the Pacific region.

Last April 26, meanwhile, Kim attended the testing of a new rocket launcher system multiple 240mm capable of hitting Seoul. The weapon, from what has emerged, was developed by a newly established company, and its introduction “will bring about a strategic change in the process of consolidating the artillery force of the Korean People’s Army“, North Korean media explained.

Kim reportedly attended the testing as part of celebrations for the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army.
