We are now at the final stages of the Project “AGEDILAB, Autonomy Laboratories”. THE A.GE.DI. odv, Association of Parents of Disabled Children and Adults, making use of the resources allocated pursuant to articles 72 and 73 of the Legislative Decree. n. 117/2017, Third Sector Code, has successfully reached the final phase of the project, marking a significant milestone in the empowerment and inclusion of people with disabilities in our community, of which it intends to inform the citizens, who supported it with great affection and expectations.

Started at the beginning of 2023the Project was conceived with the aim of providing people with disabilities with the tools and resources necessary to promoteindependence, skills development and social integration. Through the activities of the three workshops (cooking, fitness and families) AGEDILAB offered a support service and an inclusive context, where participants (members and non-members of the association) were able to develop and increase their skills.

The AGEDILAB project

The realization of the project, implemented in partnership with theARCI Reggio Calabria APS, was possible thanks to the support and collaboration of Chef Fortunato Aricò ofTaste Workshopby Chef Antonello Fragomeni of Fragomeni pastry shop and Prof. Umberto Sgrò ofADS GYM POINT by Paolo Albino. The activities were designed and conducted by dedicated teams of experts and volunteers. These are professionals who, in some cases, had never “worked” with people with disabilities, but who immediately approached them, revealing incredible human qualities and great motivation. With exceptional results.

In one year of activity, participants had the opportunity to acquire practical skills, improve their social skills, explore new interests and establish meaningful connections with other members of the micro community. They have all demonstrated that they are capable of overcoming the limits that their respective conditions (and often also civil society) places on them. For the success of the workshops, the active presence of the volunteers was fundamental, following the children with humanity and discretion, stimulating, encouraging and supporting them in every job.

The President of AGEDI odv states, Maria Mirella Gangeri:

“It was an amazing experience for all of us involved in the project. We are extremely proud of the progress our children have made and the meaningful connections that have been made during the course of the project. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to contribute to their journey of growth and inclusion.”

In addition to direct support for participants, the project also helped raise awareness in the local community about the importance of inclusion. Through events
audiences, conferences and awareness-raising activities, the project promoted greater awareness and understanding of the challenges and opportunities that
people with disabilities face in our city.

Gangeri added:

“Let’s watch after you with enthusiasm for the next phase of our commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities. We will continue to work to build a more inclusive and welcoming community for our children, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.”

The aim of the projects of the Association of Parents of Disabled Children and Adults is to make the people with disabilities who participate as autonomous as possible, to integrate them into a context other than the family one, to prepare them for an “after us”, ” during us.”

Naturally the AGEDI odv it doesn’t stop there and, also thanks to the collaboration of local supporters (entrepreneurs, traders and private citizens) who have joined the “Get your hands dirty – The Fairy Children” campaign, it will continue aware of the enormous commitment of the many who have dedicated their time and energy so far in support of this activity, and whom we will never stop thanking.
