Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo – only 28 units will be produced.

As in the automotive world, the motorcycle world has also adopted the idea of track-ready motorcycles, offered to people like us. These fast machines are usually adapted versions of a brand’s conventional motorcycles, or a step below racing bikes.

And Aprilia is the latest manufacturer to get into the game with the launch of the RS 660 Trofeo; a track-only limited edition sports bike that builds on the brand’s previous success and a bike we can’t help but be excited about.

The bike itself is based on the RS 660, but unlike the street bike, the Trofeo is actually built by the competition department. According to Aprilia, “limited production, which occurs between competition seasons, is carried out directly by Aprilia’s competition department as part of the Factory Works program.”

With this in mind, Aprilia Racing and the Factory Works program have worked to build a better bike. The program eliminates the ignition switch assembly, along with the ABS – although “the ABS control unit, however, remains on the motorcycle and wired to take advantage of the integrated electronic system strategies – while the rest of the system braking is “simplified with independent lines”. The bike’s ECU is then reprogrammed with “mappings (all ‘full power’) developed by Aprilia Racing.”

It has also been optimized for the SC Project racing exhaust.

To keep everything level, the suspension system has been updated, with the front fork receiving an adjustable internal “Misano by Andreani” cartridge, which works for both compression and damping and preload, while the Öhlins rear shock AP948 “has hydraulic adjustment of preload, compression and damping”.

The bike’s chassis has been improved, as Aprilia has lowered the riding position, while the brand has made the footpegs adjustable. The brand has also reduced the dry weight – an absurd measurement as we have discussed in the past – to just 153kg.

Only 28 RS 660 Trofeos will be built, so if you’re the type of person who wants to impress everyone at the next track day, be quick, as orders are already available.
