The organizers of the beautiful exhibition “Boldini, De Nittis et les Italiens de Paris” open to Novara Castle until April 7th they announce that it will remain open on Easter and Easter Monday (Sunday March 31st and Monday April 1st)

The exhibition

Eight rooms inside the Novara Castle they host ninety works in a journey that ideally takes us back to Paris at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, among the works of some of the most well-known and loved Italian artists by the general public, first and foremost Giovanni Boldini from Ferrara (1842-1931) and Giuseppe from Barletta. de Nittis (1846-1884).

Through comparisons with a fast and stimulating pace, the visitor can immerse himself in the spirit of the era and imagine himself among ateliers and exhibitions in the city which, as is known, since the early 1820s had attracted numerous Italian artists eager to engage with the culture figurative art from beyond the Alps and to expand its market beyond the border. With the birth of the first Universal Exhibitions, cities such as London and Paris had attracted millions of visitors from all over Europe to become nerve centers of the international contemporary art market. L’Exposition universelle of 1867, the first entirely structured in pavilions, confirmed Paris, to paraphrase Walter Benjamin, as the capital of luxury and fashion, of progress and civilisation. In this context, therefore, the art market not only became flourishing but also continuously and rapidly growing. It was precisely from the 1960s that enterprising French, English, German and Dutch contemporary art dealers competed to secure the works of promising young artists, often managing to convince them to stipulate “exclusive” contracts, becoming the direct intermediaries with buyers and their aesthetic taste. Among the most famous merchants Adolphe Goupil, Friedrich Reitlinger, Thomas and William Agnew, Algernon Moses Marsden.

The exhibition is organized by METS Percorsi d’Arte following the great public and critical success recorded by the exhibitions Nineteenth century in collection. From the Macchiaioli to Segantini (2018-2019), Divisionism. The revolution of light (2019-2020), The myth of Venice. From Hayez to the Biennale (2021-2022) e Milan from Romantica to Scapigliata (2022-2023).
