Sassari, resounding success at Astra for “Samà lu mannu”
Children at the theater rediscover the treasure of the Sassari language
The show was the final event of the theatrical linguistic laboratory
organized by Is.Be, which constitutes the cultural animation part of the project
“Linguistic Help Desk” financed by the Municipality of Sassari with funds from the Law
482/99 and with regional law 22/2018 for the 2022 year
SASSARI. “Gran Samà who bedda nabi, à curriddu many seas, the pirates ani gana di gudissi lu siddaddu”.
Thus the little pirates sing the praises of the search for treasure on the stage of the Cinteteatro Astra in Sassari. It’s pure
show. Superlative scenography and overwhelming music. Public in raptures. A river of applause floods
an audience full of spectators. And the treasure is really there in the end: it is the rediscovery of the Sassari language, in
a participatory event rarely seen in the city.
“Samà lu mannu” is an exciting theatrical performance for children and adults, taken from the homonymous
story (published by Catartica edizioni) written by Maria Daniela Carta who, together with the actress Roberta
Tola (La Frumentaria company), in recent months has trained fifteen pupils between the ages of eight and ten
through a theatrical linguistic laboratory called “Aiò, isciddinni a pizu”.
The young actors performed enthusiastically for almost an hour, accompanied by Beppe’s guitar and voice
Dettori and the flute of Giovannino Porcheddu, in an evening that found its culmination in the enthralling ones
songs “Il Gran Samà” and “L’Echipaggiu Gran Samà” set to music by Dettori on lyrics by Mario Lucio Marras.
Maria Doloretta Lai, president, introduced and led the event alongside the protagonists
of the Camillo Bellieni Institute, which promoted and coordinated the entire “Linguistic Helpdesk” project
financed to the Municipality of Sassari with the funds of Law 482/99 and with Regional Law 22/2018 for the 2022 year, of
where the show represents the cultural entertainment segment.
The plot sees a group of friendly pirates ready to face the storm on a sailing ship, among a thousand
adventures, to gain possession of “lu siddaddu”. In the end you manage to find an almost magical balance,
where time and wisdom define common sense and a happy ending, in a story that is not coincidentally also a
a hymn to inclusion, dialogue and the beauty of diversity.
Immersed in the spectacular scenography created by Manuel Attanasio, with the wonderful costumes created by
Barbara Uleri and under the gaze of stage collaborator Erminia Carboni, Teresa performed
Veronica Nieddu (sailor), Sofia Pasca (Doloretta), Detto Sofiari (Ipiranza), Salvatore Solinas (Antoni
Crabas), Matilde Carta (Seppia), Jacopo Fiori (pirate Pasquarinu), Ilenia Meloni (Seppia), Francesco Masala
(Mariu lu sthintiggàddu), Erica Tilocca (Marietta la munìnca), Carla Spanu (Caddarina màsthra d’ascia),
Beatrice Falchi (Pietrina Fara), Aurora Falchi (Seppia), Antonio Deiana (pirate Peppi), Andrea Mattei
(Cripinu barri mannu) and Alessandro Ticca (Bainzu Punthàri).
«We were certain from the beginning that the children would do an extraordinary job – they stated
organizers –. But the greatest reward was their satisfaction and their fluidity
in expressing oneself in the historical language of the city”. The hope is that the event can and will be replicated
only the first piece of a broader activity to enhance the language and culture of Sassari,
involving schools through literature and theatre. An area in which the Bellieni Institute stands
investing in recent years with particular commitment, starting with the publication of a standard in 2022
spelling recognized by the Sardinia Region.
