Martina, lto a twenty-year-old Roman taken by mistake from a gunshot at the height of a brawl in Sezze (Latin), is still hospitalized to the Latina hospital after a bullet hit her right ankle last Saturday, when she was with the fiancéa local boy, al Central Café of Sezze.
Still below shockit’s a lot tired after theoperation suffered for the extraction of the bullet, but remembers everything with extreme clarity. Victim and eyewitness, her story is fundamental to better understand what happened that evening and at the time of the punitive raid that resulted in her accidental injury. “Last night I slept very little, I still have a bit of pain”, reports the student who has already told everything to the police, now on the tracks of the person who participated in the brawl which culminated in the shot, fired with the intention of punishing someone else.
«I saw the blood, I was about to faint»
Saturday was supposed to be an evening like many others, spent in total carelessness, but it turned into a nightmare. Martina often comes to Sezze, where her boyfriend lives: «she had been going on since at least 10 pm brawls – Martina says from the hospital bed – and for this reason, together with my boyfriend we had decided to stay in the place waiting for them to come and pick us up. I was on a video call with my mother when I saw the shooter come in. It all happened in a matter of seconds. It was understood that he was looking for someone: he had one hidden gun, then he pulled it out towards this man who dodged it with his hand. But the shot – Martina is sure – would have gone off anyway. Then we couldn’t understand anything anymore, I felt a strong pain in my foot and I saw blood on the ground: I suffer from anxiety and I was about to faint.” Help soon arrived and he was taken to hospital. Mum and dad, from Rome, will arrive around two o’clock to check on her condition.
«For now I won’t return to Sezze»
Meanwhile, time passes slowly in the hospital, where the girl will have to stay for a few more days: her favorite sandwich brought straight from the fast food restaurant, phone calls from friends, visits from mum and dad who have been in a whirlwind of worries since last Saturday. And a thought, unexpressed but perhaps the only one that can console, goes around in everyone’s heads: “It could have been worse.” Yes, because in other situations, where fights and punitive expeditions do not fail to create problems for those who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, the outcomes can go well beyond a foot injury. Martina often frequents the town of Sezze where her boyfriend lives. «For the moment – she sighs – I don’t think you will come back here».
The father: «We will go all the way»
Dad Alessandro, meanwhile, explains that he wants to get to the bottom of this story: «We are ready to face this period, both for my daughter’s recovery phase and from a legal point of view. I would really like to understand if this person they are looking for, first of all, has already been in prison as they say. And I really thank the mayor of Sezze – concludes Martina’s father – for what he is doing.” Precisely the mayor of the Lepino municipality, Lidano Lucidi, who was among the first to go to the scene of the shooting, launches an appeal to the institutions asking them to strengthen the presence of the police: «Solutions are needed, because Saturday night’s episode did not turn into a real tragedy only due to a fortuitous circumstance, which might not happen again next time. We need concrete actions, we need soldiers and agents, we need to understand that a country of 25 thousand souls and with a territorial extension like that of Sezze deserves greater attention, greater consideration.” While the investigations by the Carabinieri continue to capture the person responsible for injuring Martina and the other subjects involved in the brawl, a provincial committee for order and safety is scheduled for Tuesday 30 April at the prefecture of Latina.
