Occhiuto, ‘the perception of Calabria has changed in 30 months’

CATANZARO, 29 APR – “In these two and a half years we have managed to demonstrate that Calabria is a region that can be well governed and that here too a process of change can begin which I actually believe we have begun. Of this new perception here and I’m very proud of the country.” This was said by the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto who today in Lamezia Terme, first with a visit to the construction site of the new airport, almost as if to symbolize the work underway in the region, and then inside the airport, took stock of the first 30 months of his regional government. Flanked by the councilors of his council, he listed the work carried out in the two and a half years of legislature: from health to the environment, from culture and education to work and the economy to the reforms carried out in various sectors, also mentioning the many open dossiers on things to do in the coming months and years. “Precisely those like us – Occhiuto argued – have the perception, through the work they carry out every day, of how many problems there are in Calabria, are aware of the fact that what has been done in these thirty months is much more, definitely much more than what has been done in the last 20 years, but it is the basis from which to do many other things because many other problems deserve to be addressed and solved in a region that has solved very few in the past. However, I am very happy with the new one narrative that we managed to give of Calabria”. Among the favorable elements, Occhiuto highlighted the signing (“first southern region”, he recalled) of the cohesion agreement with the government for two billion and 800 thousand euros which can be spent shortly. He spoke about the spending of the POR and FSC funds and mentioned reforms such as the single emergency number 112, the reform of Sorical, that of the land reclamation consortia, the labor and civil protection policies. Regarding tourism, he announced investments in new routes with other airlines and announced funds of 16 million euros for the construction of family hotels. On healthcare, which has always been one of the hot topics, he claimed thousands of hirings and the use of Cuban doctors, underlining the fact that as commissioner he intended to “show his face”, which he also did with the purification and protection of environment.
