Vigevano-Forlì, playoff game 3: the good and the bad of the series

Fiery climate at PalaELAchem of Vigevano for this match already decisive for the passage of the round of the A2 basketball series playoffs.

When I entered the arena, the atmosphere created by the home crowd was immediately palpable, not only from the Curva but from an entire people who still believe in the comeback, despite the 2-0 defeat suffered by the Ducali in the first two matches of the series.

The home curve looks very compact behind the banner Ultrasabove which the piece of the Boys Rosatesea group that supports the Lombardy First Category football team of the same name and with which the people of Vigevano have long been twinned.

A few moments before the tap-off, a banner is displayed aimed at the Forlì fans which reads: “YOU TALK ABOUT MORAL MENTALITY AND SHOW YOURSELF TO THE OFFICIAL PUBLIC”deliberately underlining the word “Monsters” which is also the name of a guest group.

From Forlì there are around seventy fans who identify themselves behind the banners Curva Nord Forlì, Bh, Ca’ Ossi and exactly Monsters.

It goes without saying that in both Vigevano and Forlì basketball is the most followed and popular sport at a local level and its ultras are perfect testimony to this.

There is no shortage of verbal skirmishes between the two factions but it is undeniable that the home yellow-blues are the masters at the singing level, also thanks to an electrifying start to the match in which Vigevano started really strong with an initial partial of 9-0 and with Forlì who seems almost dazed.

During the second quarter, the hosts showed off an excellent “Avellino” style scarf with scarves up and down in rhythm.

At the long break I take the opportunity to move around and better discover this facility, which this year has definitively taken the place of the now demolished one. PalaBasletta of Via Carducci, certainly less spacious but which led Vigevano to be known as the Thessaloniki of Italy in the golden days of the top flight. Precisely in this sense, at the beginning of the third quarter, the Curva di casa addresses the guests with the chorus “Salutate la Salonicco” to which the entire yellow-blue audience responds.

Moving around the building again, I also notice the group Old guard positioned in front of the Ultras and, most curiously, right under the away section, even if its composition and participation do not actually seem to threaten conflict with the opponents.

The match continues and the temperature in the stands becomes increasingly higher: the red and white fans shout hostile chants towards the Venetians, to which the ducals, historically twinned, respond with “My brother is Venetian!”, followed by a provocative “Your brother He’s from Bologna!” towards the people of Forlì with whom there is no good blood at all.

A match without history on the parquet ends with the victory of Vigevano 76 to 67 in the presence of Forlì, great favorites in the series, which has always been at a disadvantage. Two more days and everything repeats and resets: that’s the good thing about the playoffs… or the bad thing.
