THEl Foggia in the crosshairs of the underworld. There are five suspects at large, one is a minor, for attempted extortion, possession and possession of explosives, arson and attempted arson aggravated by the mafia towards the leaders of the Rossoneri club. The main targets are the president Nicola Canonico and his son Emmanuel that last January 9th found a bomb near his car in Modugno, near the entrepreneur’s company. The owner, however, would have suffered an attempted extortion. The aim was to “force him to resign and sell the company”.
The five suspects, some involved in organized crime in Foggia, are also accused of setting fire to the car of an ultras leader and of attempting to set fire to the vehicles of two leaders.
The suspects are currently under investigation at large. A few days ago the Bari District Anti-Mafia Directorate ordered some searches and the seizure of mobile phones and tablets.
The investigators’ lights came on in June 2023, after the shots fired at the former captain’s car Davide Di Pasquale. The vehicle was located near the Zaccheria stadium, just in the days of the playoff final lost against Lecco.
It is not the first time that the underworld has targeted the world of football. In the papers of “Decima Azione”, a maxi operation of 2018 against the Foggia mafia, emerged battery pressures Sinesi-Francavilla towards the brothers Sannellaowners of the club at the time.
