Below is the resignation letter of the provincial commissioner of Potenza of Noi Moderati, Vittoria Rotunno, sent to president Maurizio Lupi.
Dear President, I confidently awaited a response to the note sent to you on 19 March in which I represented the complex and disappointing situation that had arisen in the Noi Moderati party in Basilicata. While I understand the objective difficulties in making decisions and providing the consequent indications, I believed that you, President, would have taken into account my request for support and that you would have given us the indications we were waiting for. In the meantime, what I feared happened, that is, the We Moderates List was not presented and, as if this wasn’t enough, two top exponents of the regional board ran as candidates in another party.
At this point the absence of responses to my, and not only mine, requests for clarification and assumption of political responsibility in the face of the very serious events that have occurred in Basilicata, allows only two possible deductions: the Regional Commissioner of Basilicata has betrayed his mandate by “selling” a political community in exchange for a personal perspective and then, incredibly, the National Direction of the party itself, in part or in whole, decided, ex post, to pretend nothing had happened, confirming what had happened.
He understands well that, faced with an entire political community which, both in Potenza and in Matera, has felt stabbed in the back without a minimum of truth and coherence, it is not possible to adapt to the style chosen so far by the Party Leadership, that is, hypocritically, pretend nothing has happened by even claiming that despite the absence of the symbol, the party is represented within the Forza Italia List.
In light of what happened, dear President, I ask you: were you informed that the Regional Commissioner Francesco Cannizzaro was conducting negotiations with Forza Italia? It seemed right to her to disappoint those who had decided to stand as candidates in Noi Moderati by pandering,
without an explanation, the decision pro domo sua, not shared, of the Regional Commissioner and the Provincial Commissioner of Matera?
What measures have you considered adopting towards the Regional Commissioner, the Regional Vicar and the Provincial Commissioner of Matera and if not, why?
Frankly, 8 days after the letter in which I highlighted the situation and announced what then happened and 5 days after the filing of the lists which certified the reality of the facts, the strident silence, the absence of a reaction from the The Party’s leadership makes the reality of things evident and, from now on, my questions are a mere rhetorical exercise. President, having not received any formal response from you or from others to whom my note was addressed, in the belief that politics is something different from personalism and subterfuge, I can only, painfully, acknowledge that I have committed a serious error of trust and evaluation with respect to the party’s leadership group and, consequently, submit my irrevocable resignation as Provincial Commissioner of Potenza and from We Moderates.
