The Siena municipal council, in the meeting held today, Thursday 28 March, approved the loan contract scheme to the University of Siena for the municipally owned property Auditorium of San Miniato. The act was presented by the Councilor for Public Works of the Municipality of Siena Massimo Bianchini.

The municipal council of Siena, in particular, has decided to approve the loan contract scheme and, as stated in the deed, “to grant, therefore, the auditorium on loan for free use to the University of Siena located in via Enrico Berlinguer, Piazza della Constitution (for a total surface area of 490 square metres), for exclusively educational use, for one year starting from the signing of the loan agreement, with the possibility of further renewals by evaluating the needs of the University and the needs of the institution, committing to give full availability of the aforementioned space to the various associations present in the San Miniato district according to a usage calendar updated periodically. The council also acknowledges that all ancillary charges relating to utilities serving the property and all ordinary maintenance interventions are the full responsibility of the University of Siena”.

In the premises of the resolution it is specified that “during the pandemic period the municipal administration granted the University of Siena the use of the Auditorium for educational purposes in order to allow lessons to be held in person while ensuring the necessary distancing ; the University of Siena used the aforementioned space during both semesters of the 2020/2021 academic year and the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, reimbursing the granting body for the costs relating to utilities; during the aforementioned period, the University of Siena found the right synergy with the various associations present in the area regarding the use of the Auditorium, providing them with full availability of the space during times when lessons were not held ”.

The University of Siena itself has asked the municipal administration for the possibility of using the space also for the current academic year; request motivated by the increase in the number of students and study courses offered by the university and is now awaiting the construction of the new university complex. “With a view to pursuing its own objectives of providing services and economic, social and cultural promotion of the community of reference, it is in the interest of the municipal administration – we read again – to pursue as its objective the maximum and most complete valorisation of the assets at its disposal ”.
