PALERMO – He had disappeared from Catanzaro where he lives with his family and his mother had presented the report to the police this morning. Massimo, 14 years old, was foundor shortly after lunchtime, he wandered around Ballarò, in Palermo. Ua story with a happy ending thanks to the intuition of three women and a man, volunteers of the Sbaratto association, operating in the popular market, who came across the young man by chance. The boy had addressed them, in via Nino Martoglio: “Sorry, I’m looking for a B&B to stay in”. The four immediately realized that something was strange.

“It was clear that he was a minor – says Cetti Sauro, vice president of the association – I asked him where he came from, first he replied Milan, then Rome but it was clear that he was from Southern Italy, he had two bags in his hand”. The four started asking him questions. The boy showed nervousness, repeated that he was looking for accommodation and advised them not to call the police. “At that point we almost surrounded him to prevent him from leaving but to reassure him,” says Giovanni Giordano. Massimo then confided in the people of Ballarò and said that he came from Catanzaro and had fled from home, arriving in Palermo by train.

“We convinced him to call his mother to reassure her – says Cetti Sauro – His phone was off, he turned it on and made the call. Then I myself spoke to the lady, to reassure her by telling her that her son was in good hands.” Then the police arrived notified by one of the volunteers. The two soldiers spoke to the boy, reassuring him and then to his mother. “Congratulations for the gesture you made,” the soldiers said to the four before putting the boy in the car and taking him to the barracks. “Ballarò is not as it is often said – says Cetti Sauro – Here there are many good people, we support each other. We are happy to have helped the boy and his family”
