Out of breath, but in the playoffs. Latina Calcio 1932 ends the championship with the fourth consecutive defeat, but thanks to the success of Casertana sul Sorrento they reach tenth position, the last position needed to participate in the promotion pool. Taranto passes to Francioni, protagonists of a great first half enriched by goals from Zonta and Simeri. In the second half Latina changes skin and closes the gap with Mastroianni, but despite the final assault they don’t reach a draw that they would have deserved.
The first ring came from Taranto with a ball recovered in the 4th minute by Simeri who quickly turned and then shot from the edge of the box, deflected into a corner. In the 8th minute, a double goal for Latina: after an insistent action by D’Orazio from the left, Paganini unleashes a shot on which Vannucchi intervenes, who then immediately defuses D’Orazio’s shot from close range to a few steps from the small area. The reply from the Apulians was not long in coming, it was Kanoute who scared the Nerazzurri defence. In the 17th minute, following a sudden pass, Bifulco comes in from the left and serves the onrushing Zonta who shoots directly into the goal, calling for Guadagno to make a big save. The guests pick up the pace, forcing Latina onto the defensive and in the 26th minute they take the lead, with Simeri inspiring and Zonta beating Guadagno from the left with a soft lob that goes into the far post. The Nerazzurri immediately tried to respond.
In the 29th minute D’Orazio goes for the cross from the left which Mastroianni pounces on, but his header ends up docilely in the arms. The hosts, however, also suffered a second goal in the 34th minute following the development of a contested corner: Simeri, alone in the penalty area, took advantage of Enrici’s right-footed shot from distance to beat Guadagno in a desperate exit.
A terrible blow for Latina who continues to suffer the initiative of Capuano’s team, more brilliant and inspired. Then, in the 39th minute, a burst from the usual D’Orazio who goes for the cross aimed from the left, which is inserted by Del Sole who comes close to the ball, but finds Vannucchi ready to deflect onto the crossbar. However, it was a different Latina, more daring and determined, who came close to equalizing in the 11th minute with D’Orazio’s free kick hitting the crossbar. The hosts understand that they need to ride the moment and in the 18th minute, following a cut cross from the usual D’Orazio, Marino fails to reach the goal in time. To try to get even, Latina takes risks in the counterattacks, but Taranto doesn’t take advantage of it to close the contest. So Fontana tries everything, inserting both Fabrizi and Capanni for Mastroianni and De Santis. In the final attack it was Capanni who failed to take advantage of a sensational scoring opportunity at the invitation of the elusive D’Orazio: on the winger’s cross the number 80 headed the ball on his own, sending it incredibly wide. Latina, despite everything, goes to the play offs. To be played, pending the appeal of the Apulians, right at the home of Capuano’s team.
