TRIESTE – On the night of Wednesday 20 March, a serious incident of traffic violation shook Trieste. A 45 year old from Trieste (initials RA) was reported by the local police after being caught passing with the redin the state of inebriation and with the license revoked.
A night patrol spotted the offender’s motorcycle traveling along Viale D’Annunzio towards Piazza Garibaldi, ignoring the red traffic light. At the next check, the driver tested positive foralcohol test.
Escape attempt and resistance to the police
The officers attempted to stop the man, but he accelerated and took Via Vasari in opposite direction of circulation, putting the lives of drivers who were rushing to avoid the head-on collision at risk. Subsequently, the man continued his escape, abandoning the motorcycle and trying to escape on foot.
Despite his efforts to evade capture, the man was intercepted by officers, but he resisted. Taken to the San Sebastiano barracks, he tested positive for alcohol with a blood alcohol level exceeding 4 times the permitted limit.
Serious charges and disputed violations
In addition to the charge for driving while intoxicated and resisting a public official, the offender was charged with several administrative violations, including drunkenness, running a red light at traffic lights, failure to comply with the stop sign and driving with license revoked. The motorcycle was placed under administrative detention for three months.
