Five goals, many emotions, as many mistakes and in the end Padova ends the regular season with a smile, giving the fans a victory in the Triveneto derby against Triestina. The Biancoscudati ended the championship at 77 points, -3 behind Mantua (small consolation), demonstrating that they have more than decent legs ahead of the playoffs. While waiting for possible postseason postponements or not, the success against Bordin’s men provides many good ideas for Oddo, who got the answers he wanted on the eve: points, desire not to give up and goals. The final collective embrace between players and technical staff, the even stronger and more emotionally impactful one with the stadium and the fans are the signal that this Padova wants to play a leading role in the next playoffs. The first half
Oddo, as expected, shuffles the cards by proposing the usual 4-3-3 with some variations on the theme compared to Fiorenzuola, such as Bortolussi at the center of the attack, Crisetig in front of the defense with Bianchi promoted from 1′, Belli and Faedo behind. The approach to the match was the right one from the Paduans, decidedly livelier than their opponents, with Bortolussi particularly inspired and close to scoring on two occasions with a nice diagonal shot and a flying heel. As has already happened in the past, after taking the lead, Padova fatally stops playing, managing ball possession with a reasonable pace, but suffering from the reaction of Triestina who in the space of three minutes between the 24th and 27th minutes came close to equalizing three times. with Vallocchia (central conclusion), Minesso (closed in a corner by an amazing Faedo) and Pavlev (Zanellati deflects for a corner). Cretella warms Matosevic’s gloves in the 34th minute, but in the 40th minute Bianchi combines an omelette and has the ball stolen at the limit by Minesso, with the latter quick to serve Vertainen, very precise with the right-footed shot to beat the innocent Zanellati . The second half
The second half began without any shocks, but in the 55th minute Triestina completed the comeback with the newly introduced Redan, able to take advantage of a collective sleep by the Padova defense and strike into the top corner from the center of the penalty area. On the occasion of the action, the rise of the defensive line was not perfect, with Belli and Faedo not very reactive. The white-shielded center back number 72 redeemed himself for seven minutes by heading the equalizer. Assist by Dezi, who entered the pitch with the right face. For the central defender from Verona, long celebrated by his family and friends present in the West Stand, second league goal since January.
With the slower pace, the race opens up to multiple opportunities on both sides. Tordini almost surprises Matosevic in the 67th minute, a minute later Minesso tries to disguise himself as Hernan Crespo and with his flying heel tries to surprise Zanellati, well positioned and punctual in the save. As the minutes passed, Padova grew in intensity. Oddo replaces Varas, who was booked a few minutes after he entered the field, and in the 81st minute his team took the lead again with a nice maneuvering move finished off by Faedo in the Rui Costa version, capable of clearing Dezi with a nice flat shot, which from inside from the penalty area he sends a low shot to the far post that is uncatchable for Matosevic.
