REGGIO EMILIA – “On the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day we want to introduce you to Addison, who we asked to pose for a photo displayed in our shop where he is eating an ice cream with his favorite flavour, strawberry!”. This is what we read in a post published on the Facebook page of the Spatolata ice cream shop in Reggio Emilia. “Addie is not a first-time model and she recently graduated from high school in San Diego, California. She loves to dance and is a volunteer at her hometown church where she spends time with her friends. She really likes other people and her family believes that empathy is her greatest asset. She addie is always the life of the party’ and is the first to say hello even though she has an extra chromosome. Down syndrome is a genetic condition that doesn’t stop Addie from being a girl like the others! She dreams of going to college and living away from home with a friend. She is still not sure which university course to choose but she confessed to us that she has thought about starting her own business! We are very happy to have met Addie and her family and we admire them for how they fight every day to promote inclusion and give visibility to people with Down syndrome. If you happen to meet Addie or another person with a disability – concludes the post – stop for a chat and listen to what they have to say, it will certainly be an appreciated gesture”.
