Last Sunday on the internal dam of the port, around eighty athletes from all over Italy lined up to compete in the first “Città di Civitavecchia” Trophy, a selective national competition for the Italian Cup circuit. The members of the Italian national team were present at the event with coach Valerio Mengozzi who will try to win the coveted Nations World Cup title in Greece in September.
The race was conditioned in the last hour by a strong mistral wind which made the fishing complicated and difficult. The competition field is divided into two areas, upper and lower, and the upper area of the competition field prevails with the catches obtained. Probably due to the seasonal period or the weather situation, there was a lack of catches of horse mackerel which have always characterized previous competitions and what made the rankings were bream, bream, salpe and some bonito.
Giuseppe Di Iorio from Canna da Riva Tubertini from Civitavecchie wins big with 9,175 points ahead of Romano Massetti Alessandro from Team Blue Marlin Trabucco with 6,455 points, third from Ravenna Michelangelo Vanzolini from Club Pesca Cervia Colmic who scores 4,390 points. The club ranking was won by the Neapolitans of Cannisti Smal’s Tubertini.
With the overall, Di Iorio acquires the right to national participation in the Italian Cup which will be played in November in Salerno. “The thanks of all the participants for the precious painstaking work in organizing the event at the Canna da Riva Tubertini – reads the note – to the competent authorities: Port Authority of Civitavecchia, Port System Authority, Customs Agency, Municipality of Civitavecchia , RCT (Cruise Pier Concessionaire) thanks from all sport fishermen. Civitavecchia and its port have become a point of reference and an example for the whole world of shore fishing for FIPSAS and the many national agonists.
