This morning, in the Italy Room of the Government Palace, the Prefect of Potenza Michele Campanaro chaired the Provincial Committee for public order and safety, meeting for the examination and approval of the video surveillance projects submitted by 46 Municipalities of the province of Potenza on the Urban Security Funds of the Ministry of the Interior, for the year 2023-2024. In addition to the provincial leaders of the Police Force, the meeting was attended by the manager of the Telecommunications Zone of the State Police for Basilicata, the President of the Province, the Mayor of the City of Potenza and the Mayors and Commissioners of the Municipalities involved (Abriola, Acerenza, Anzi, Atella, Avigliano, Balvano, Baragiano, Barile, Carbone, Castelluccio Inferiore, Castronuovo di Sant’Andrea, Chiaromonte, Corleto Perticara, Filiano, Forenza, Francavilla in Sinni, Ginestra, Grumento Nova, Lagonegro, Lauria, Lavello , Maratea, Marsicovetere, Montemilone, Montemurro, Noepoli, Palazzo San Gervasio, Pietragalla, Pignola, Rapolla, Rionero in Vulture, Rivello, Roccanova, Ruoti, San Costantino Albanese, San Fele, San Severino Lucano, Sant’Angelo Le Fratte, Sant’ Arcangelo, Savoy of Lucania, Spinoso, Tito, Trecchina, Vaglio Basilicata, Venosa and Vietri di Potenza). Of the 46 requests made, 29 resumed projects already nominated and not financed in previous years, while the remaining 17 concerned new projects. The proposals, illustrated during the meeting by the Mayors, in some cases aimed at strengthening and modernizing existing networks, with more technologically advanced equipment, in others at creating a video surveillance system from scratch. All the projects were subject to a timely technical evaluation by the representative of the Telecommunications Area and the Police Force. The 17 new projects were also preceded by the signing of the “Pacts for the implementation of urban safety” with the Mayors in recent days.

“The number of applications received is significant – declared the Prefect Michele Campanaro – and testifies to a new and shared sensitivity of local administrators towards the issues of safety in general and urban safety in particular, as also demonstrated by the important indications that are coming from new cycle of itinerant committees for public order and security launched at the beginning of this year, for a direct comparison in the area with the First Citizens of the province”. During the meeting, it was also highlighted the need, in case of passing the first step, for the new license plate detection cameras to be connected to the National License Plate and Transit Control System – SCNTT, for effective interaction with the Operations Rooms. of the Police Force. The Committee has therefore expressed a favorable opinion for all 46 projects which will be immediately transmitted to the Ministry of the Interior for the preparation of the national ranking, useful for the purposes of admission to funding. “Today’s approval – concluded the Government Representative – is a first, essential step to allow Municipalities to take advantage of the precious opportunity offered by the Ministry of the Interior. But regardless of the outcome of the ministerial procedure – which provides for the formation of a national ranking on the basis of the municipal crime index and the co-financing quota proposed by the body – the invitation to the local administrators of the province is to continue with conviction on the road taken. In fact, the strengthening of urban security implementation tools, with the leading role of video surveillance systems, is absolutely decisive for consolidating citizens’ perception of security, with positive effects on civil coexistence and the social cohesion of local communities”.
