It was October 21, 2014 when the Leonardo Bridge was inaugurated, a variant connection to the SR69 between the municipalities of Montevarchi and Terranuova. And it therefore took almost ten years before the Province of Arezzo decided to definitively dismantle what was the ‘base camp’ of the maxi construction site for its construction: the work in fact then required 5 years of work and a total cost of 54 million euros.
From the cutting of the ribbon until today, however, next to the Leonardo Bridge, on the Montevarchi side, there were still signs of that construction site: the skeleton of the base camp, with the fence, some concrete structures, even a hut with an asbestos roof. Now the Province of Arezzo, as part of a two-year Framework Agreement already signed for various maintenance in its territory of reference, has decided to proceed with the environmental restoration of that abandoned area.
We read in the management resolution: “It was necessary to carry out an environmental restoration intervention in the areas in which the former Leonardo Bridge Base Camp is locatedalong the SR 69 of Valdarno, near Km 11+560, in the Municipality of Montevarchi, which consists of the demolition of an old wooden hut, as well as the practice of transferring the related asbestos roofing to an authorized landfill, as well as removal of all the concrete elements and piles of inert material resulting, from the analyzes for classification, as mixed waste from construction and demolition activities, therefore their removal and transfer to an authorized landfill and/or material recovery plant is envisaged ”.
The entire material removal and environmental restoration operation will cost around 90 thousand euros.
