Rome, 27 March 2024 – Italy divided in two in the next few days, Easter included. Edoardo Ferrara of 3bmeteo reports that between Thursday 28 March and Friday 29 “the weather will be thick rainy in the North and partly in the Centre where the Atlantic disturbances will flow, while in the South it will be largely dry and gradually warm due to the insistence of winds coming from North Africa. Specifically, a new passage of scattered showers and thunderstorms is expected in the North on Thursday, with snow in the Alps generally come on 1,000-1,300 meters but also further down in Piedmont. Local phenomena also occur in the Center while the South will see mostly sunny conditions. Friday more rain in the northern regions although this time concentrated mainly near the Alps and Pre-Alps, while in the Center and South the weather will be mostly stable”. The snow that wasn’t there during the winter continues to fall in the mountains, however a nice sigh of relief in view of the summer.

The weather forecast for Easter and Easter Monday

The weather forecast for Easter and Easter Monday

There will be little space for trips and picnics in Northern Italy over the Easter and Easter Monday weekend: the climate will in fact often be unstable and disturbed. “In particular Saturday we expect scattered rainfall especially in the North West, while on Sunday Easter should be the worst with widespread phenomena also extending to the North East, locally intense and of a thunderstorm nature: sometimes very abundant rainfall accumulations are not excluded in particular close to the Pre-Alps and the foothills where overall peaks above 100-150 meters could be recorded. Further snowfalls, sometimes heavy, will affect the Alps but in general at medium-high altitudes. Also there Easter Monday will most likely see scattered showers, but this time less widespread and also alternating with sunny breaks, especially on the plains. On the edge of the cyclonic action, the Center has a greater risk of rain for Tuscany at least until Easter. Elsewhere generally drier but with some showers or thunderstorms not excluded especially on Easter Monday”.

It’s a completely different atmosphere in the South, where it will be almost summer, thanks to the protection of theAfrican anticyclone with largely dry weather for the entire Easter weekend and largely also for Easter Monday: good news for outdoor activities, but on an environmental level we remember that there are many areas that still need water, primarily the Sicily. Just the island could experiment the first 30 degrees on the Tyrrhenian side, due to the strong Sirocco winds which will pump hot air from North Africa with decidedly above average temperatures throughout the South (but also in the Centre). Even in the southern peninsula it will be possible to overcome peaks of 25-26 degrees, on the internal areas far from the sea, as well as on western Sardinia. The weather, however stable, may not always be sunny, indeed the skies will often be clouded by passing high clouds but also from the desert sand which will be driven in massive doses by the Sirocco winds, often dyeing the sky a ‘yellowish’ colour”, conclude the experts.
