At dawn today, the Carabinieri of the Company of Barcellona Pozzo Of Gotto have carried out an order for the application of the precautionary measure of house arrest with an electronic bracelet, issued by the GIP of the Court of PattiDr. Eugenio Aliquò, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office led by the Chief Prosecutor Angelo Vittorio Cavallo, against three subjects, two men and a woman, all originally from the Catania area, presumed responsible for multiple crimes of aggravated theft which they allegedly committed in Falcon in a primary school and others Oliveri in a former middle school, now home to a scout group, and for storing boats and windsurfing sports equipment.
The precautionary measure arises from the investigative activity carried out by the Carabinieri of the Falcone station, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Patti, initiated following some complaints presented by the victims of thefts suffered in the Municipalities of Oliveri and Falcone, in the night between the 4th and the 5 October 2023. The investigations by the soldiers of the Carabinieri, developed on the basis of the statements made by the complainants and the analysis of the videos extrapolated from the video surveillance systems, located in the places where the crimes occurred, have allowed the Carabinieri to trace the identity of the suspects as alleged perpetrators and, above all, to locate an apartment, located in Tonnarella di Furnari, used by the suspects as a base, where the military found and seized a substantial portion of stolen goods, then returned to the legitimate owners.
According to the reconstruction of the Carabinieri, the three criminals, on the night between 4 and 5 October 2023, aboard a car, first reached the premises of a school in Falcone and, after having climbed over the entrance gate, taking advantage of a window inadvertently left open, they entered inside, subsequently removing six notebooks for educational use. On the same night, still on board the same vehicle, they reached the headquarters of a former middle school used by a scout group, located in the nearby municipality of Oliveri and, after having forced the entrance door, they managed to enter inside. and to remove a box with work tools.
Still in Oliveri, the three suspects finally reached a storage area for boats and sports equipment for windsurfing and, after having forced the padlocks on the door of a relevant room used as a warehouse, they removed a large amount of equipment, tools and outboard motors, for a considerable economic value. Today’s activity demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Patti together with the Carabinieri in the area to combat the phenomenon of crimes against property. This phenomenon can also be stopped thanks to the collaboration of citizens by inviting them to report even minor thefts, which are also useful in identifying the offenders.
The above, for the purposes of the exercise of the right to freedom of the press, constitutionally guaranteed and in compliance with the rights of the suspects, who, in consideration of the current phase of the preliminary investigations, are to be presumed innocent until the irrevocable sentence which ascertains their responsibilities and with the clarification that the trial, which will take place in cross-examination with the parties and the defenses before a third and impartial judge, may also conclude with proof of the absence of any form of responsibility on the part of the suspects themselves.
