The bodies of the six victims of the migrant shipwreck which occurred on 27 October off the coast of Marinella di Selinunte were exhumed at the municipal cemetery of Mazara del Vallo and extradited to Tunisia. The bodies of the young migrants, who left on board a boat from the Tunisian coast and drowned in a shipwreck, after two months of waiting, were welcomed and buried in the Mazara del Vallo cemetery last January. The bodies, after their discovery on the Marinella di Selinunte beach and after having undergone diagnostic tests at the hospital in Palermo, remained in the cold rooms of the morgue of the “Vittorio Emanuele II” hospital in Castelvetrano at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Marsala which opened an investigation into the shipwreck.

In the same landing (in the photo the boat stranded in Marinella di Selinunte) 45 migrants were saved and were found by the police in the countryside of Menfi, Castelvetrano and Campobello. In the following weeks, the Prefecture of Trapani asked the Municipalities of the province to be willing to bury the bodies of the six young people in their cemeteries. The Municipality of Mazara del Vallo responded positively to the request, welcoming and having the bodies buried in its cemetery.

Last Tuesday, in the presence of representatives of the Consulate of the Republic of Tunisia and competent authorities, the bodies of the six shipwrecked people, identified by the State Police, were exhumed and coffins placed for subsequent transfer to Tunisia. Thus ends yet another story of migrants with a tragic ending.
