What Caterina Guzzanti brings to the theater is not a show against men. On the contrary. “According to her”, the first prose text and the first theater direction of the youngest of the Guzzanti family, is for them. A vision of man that woman has had for years and years. «We expect men to be strong and reassuring, reliable and sensitive, ambitious but faithful, passionate and never vulgar, workers and housewives, loyal, present, fathers but not mothers, playful and virtuous, always open to listening. In a word, women.” And women who are unable to be like this “blame themselves and are blamed, and who remain alone, even if they are in a couple”.

The show
At Secolo XIX Caterina also explains why these women, however, are unable to leave, break up this couple: «I wanted to tell this: the way in which we force ourselves to be together, because at a certain point, after having tried so many things, we feel that fate sent us the right person and so we don’t give up on that person even if he is a serial killer. Because we feel incomplete, dissatisfied, because we are scared and think that we can’t do it alone. We women especially. Independent, yes, never alone, for goodness’ sake.”
Twenty-five years of career just completed and began by chance, at the age of 21, when her sister Sabina proposed that she participate in the “Pippo Kennedy Show”, on Rai. A beautiful journey that Caterina now continues at the theater. And “this show is full of my life”. A story also lived with an impotent man. Because “According to Her” tells about this, a couple who are unable to have sex: he is impotent, but she wants it. And this thing really happened to Caterina and she told Secolo XIX that «I was ashamed to say: sorry, love, but I would like to fuck every now and then. And since I wasn’t listened to on the other side, from a certain moment on I started to feel dirty.” In short, men judge women. «For them, a woman must be available to have sex, but she must not ask for it. I don’t know if it’s a prejudice that we have or the projection of an expectation, but I know that the doubt that if we want to make love, then we are not worthy, we are a little wrong.”
When she wrote this show Caterina Guzzanti took the side of man. «And I would have liked to play him instead of her, because I have already played her in life, and I was broken, but above all because I am fascinated by the innocent blindness and desperation of a man who cannot face something that his genes and his animal nature they don’t want to face.” She then again: «I wanted to represent living beneath love, a couple who lives in a beautiful house but which is beneath the floor. Who is hiding.”
The love
Did you understand what love is? The question from her colleague from the 19th century is answered promptly by the actress: «No. But I think it’s love when I’m not with my son and I feel like I’m doing it wrong. I know, that’s a disgusting thing to say.” Becoming her mother made her «insecure. Not anxious, but afraid of passing on my traumas, my fears to my son.” Caterina also talks about the desire to have a family: «I have always wanted one, despite having had a very ramshackle one. With a father and mother who separated as soon as I was born. Every time I ended a relationship, the biggest difficulty for me was not seeing my ex’s friends and parents.”
