A tool for understanding hospital care in Italy: the SDO 2022 Report

The SDO information flow (Hospital Discharge Form) is the tool for collecting information relating to all hospitalization episodes provided in public and private hospital facilities throughout the country; the reliability and completeness of this flow make it unique in the panorama of healthcare information flows.

The analysis of the contents of the SDO flow is the basis of the Report on hospital admission activity (SDO Report) produced annually by Office 6 of the former General Directorate of Health Planning of the Ministry of Health; it represents an analysis tool capable of providing useful elements for reading and interpreting, both from an epidemiological and management perspective, the main health phenomena that require hospitalization, also allowing regional comparisons.

The conference aims to present the data SDO of the year 2022 and start a discussion on the potential and possible future developments of the information tool, as well as compare regional experiences.

The event will be opened by the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci.

Francesco Saverio Mennini, Head of the Department of Programming, Medical Devices, Medicines and Policies in favor of the National Health Service of the Ministry of Health, introduces the proceedings.

The day’s program includes a session on “The SDO Report 2022” And Thematic focuses dedicated:

• The case history of pediatric facilities

• Oncology hospital activity

• The organizational appropriateness of hospital structures

• The hospital activity of the structures identified by Ministerial Decree 70/2015

• Hospitalization activity linked to COVID-19

Americo Cicchetti, Director General of the former General Directorate of Health Planning, moderates the Round Table “SDO flow: new perspectives” and closes the proceedings.
