Reggio Emilia He will go to trial on May 27th. the doctor from Reggio Emilia Alberto Dallari, 68 years old, accused by the Ferrara Prosecutor’s Office of failure to provide assistance for the death of Mauro Gallerani, a 68-year-old from Corporeno who was struck by Covid-19 in August 2021 and died on 7 October of the same year after a month of hospitalisation. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Dallari prescribed a pharmacological therapy based on mostly ineffective drugs, not recommended or contraindicated by the Ministry of Health, AIFA and international literature for the treatment of Covid-19. The doctor had taken Gallerani (who was a convinced anti-vax) into his care since 25 August 2021, with a telemedicine program. He followed him remotely, receiving twice-daily updates on his body temperature, blood oxygen saturation and heart rate via text. Only by message, because among the disputed conduct there is also that of having ordered Gallerani not to make calls to him, after an attempt to contact him by telephone on 28 August, nor to send him voice messages, after receiving one on 29 August , and responding only a few days later (31 August and 1 September) when the 68-year-old was now in very serious conditions, but always and only via text message.

The drugs prescribed to Gallerani are an important chapter of the accusation. In fact, they were there Colchicine and Ivermectin. The first is an old drug with an anti-inflammatory effect used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and gout considered potentially effective on inflammation caused by Covid-19, which was later definitively refuted by various research and analyses. The second is an antiparasitic drug, with one prevalent in the veterinary field: this too has proven ineffective. Both drugs were part of an “alternative” treatment protocol that was promoted by an association of doctors not involved in this case but of which Dallari was a voluntary member and they were very popular and widely advertised as effective among those who distrusted science ” official” and the related Covid-19 treatment protocols, including vaccines.

The failure to provide assistance was also committed when, faced with the progressive worsening of Gallerani’s health conditions (which reported progressive and serious desaturation and bradycardia, which were added to a pre-existing obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, in an obese patient and with significant cardiac and respiratory pathologies), Dallari would not have taken prompt action to ensure adequate assistance, alerting the health authority or ordering his hospitalization. Gallerani went to hospital on September 3, but it was already very late.
