He is the reigning champion. He triumphed at the European Championships. He is coming down to his record times. In the weekly magazine Oggi on newsstands he confesses in a long interview. In which he does not hide behind a finger and reveals what his true goal is: the gold, which he demands

One month before the start of the Paris Games, Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs confesses in a long exclusive interview with the weekly Oggi on newsstands. Fresh from a super European Championship (two golds) and a 9.92 in the 100 meters in Turku, Jacobs touches on several topics. Starting with the change of coach: «There was a great relationship with Paolo Camossi. It was one of the most difficult moments of my life. Having to sit face to face with a man who had done so much for me, and tell him that we would no longer work together: it was devastating” – photo | video

“TO THE USA TO FIND MYSELF” – Marcell Jacobs also explains why he chose to move to the United States: «I like to live outside of athletics, to unwind, to drink a glass of wine. But I had mixed too much with an environment that wasn’t mine: fashion shows, parties, TV. It wasn’t good… To find myself again I had to go to the other side of the world, to a place where no one knew me. The first month I hammered myself with a question: did I continue to run out of duty or because I wanted to?… I thought about stopping. But then I found the feeling again».

“THAT MESSAGE FROM CARL LEWIS” – Marcell Jacobs also talks about a message left unanswered. And the sender wasn’t just anyone: «When the news came out that I had left Paolo, Carl Lewis wrote to me: “I would like to train you, for me you can do both specialties: speed and long jump”. I didn’t answer him. Not out of arrogance, it’s just that I get lost. I said to myself: “I’ll answer him later”, but an eternity has passed.” Jacobs also reveals what the goal is in Paris: «Being favored charges me: both with energy and with responsibility. I’m not going to Paris to participate, but to win.” Also because there is a tender promise to keep: «To my children, who remained in Florida, I said: “Dad promises that he will run strong to win the Olympics, so we can buy a house with a swimming pool”».
