There stand up comedian Michela Giraud he made his debut behind the camera with the film Flaminia (in theaters from 11 April) and does so by laying himself bare, telling about himself, his roots and above all his autistic sister, played by Rita Abela. The movie is dedicated precisely to her and to Andrea Purgatori (recently deceased and in the film as Alberto’s father, Flaminia’s boyfriend). “I got naked”, comments the comic which hit Netflix a few years ago with Michela Giraud, the truth, I swear!, “This film was a challenge. I generally use irony as armour, even though I tell about myself, here I let myself go.”

Flaminia is the daughter of wealthy parents, lives in Northern Rome, and is obsessed with aesthetics. She is getting married to Alberto (Edoardo Purgatori, Andrea’s son), the son of a diplomat. There are only a few weeks left before the wedding and suddenly Ludovica, an autistic stepsister, arrives in her house, causing all Flaminia’s certainties to collapse. “I had something precious in my hands,” Rita Abela reveals, “it was a wonderful journey playing Ludovica, she changed me as a person, she made me better. Confronting a character like that undermines all your superstructures.”
Flaminia, the most intimate story of Michela Giraud
Michela Giraud talks about herself. “Flaminia is part of me”, she tells us, “fortunately not too much”, she laughs. “There is a need for me to change and rebel, let’s say that in the film I don’t report actual events, but the authenticity of things that happened to me. Concretely? The desire to find oneself, and for example, not accepting certain friendships. I would like the spectators to ask themselves when watching Flaminia: ‘Am I living the life I want?’”.

I would like to be part of the Olympus of “hot girls”
At a certain point in the film, Flaminia openly says that she wants to be part of the Olympus of hotties. “Who hasn’t happened to this? I like to joke about it,” says Giraud, “I’m aware that it’s a superficial topic, but I think we all want to be a little cool. The fact of being bombarded with diktats and images that were not always reciprocated made me feel uncomfortable at times. And so I joke about it.”
They used my image to vent their frustrations
Michela Giraud, when she became popular with the show streaming on Netflix and with LOL – He who laughs is out, was targeted on social media for her physical appearance. A difficult moment for the stand up comedian who today reflects on the haters. “But who are these people? They are people you give weight to in particular moments of life, as happened to me”, says Giraud, “Maybe I found myself in a period of life where I wanted to punish myself. I don’t know these people. They used my image to vent their frustrations, I’m sorry, you should find some friends to have a chat with. But if he makes them feel better by insulting me, they should sit down. They can’t take them seriously, probably when I did it I had personal reasons.”
