Christian Bale is Frankenstein’s monster in the first official photos of The Bride Of Maggie Gyllenhaal. The director, who is collaborating with Warner Bros. on the period film, shared images of a recent test for the film on Instagram. Bale’s monster makes its debut alongside the Oscar nominee for The Dark Daughter (The Lost Daughter) by Gyllenhaal, Jessie Buckleyin the role of the bride of the title.
Gyllenhaal has assembled a stellar cast for The Bride. Alongside Christian Bale and Buckley figure Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard And Annette Bening. The film’s crew includes the cinematographer of Joker Lawrence Sher.
The Bride is set in 1930s Chicago and offers a reinterpretation of the iconic Frankenstein tradition. The film is Gyllenhaal’s second directorial effort. The first of him was The Dark Daughterwhich Netflix released in 2021. The film earned three nominations at the 94th Academy Awards: Best Actress (Olivia Colman), best supporting actress (Buckley) and best adapted screenplay.
The Bride Gyllenhaal’s isn’t the only Frankenstein film on the way. Guillermo del Toro is currently filming his Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi as the iconic monster. Del Toro’s film is supported by Netflix and stars protagonists Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley Christian Convery, Charles Dance And Christoph Waltz.
Warner Bros. will publish The Bride Of Maggie Gyllenhaal in theaters and Imax on October 2, 2025.
