Here comes the Silvio Berlusconi Publisher . The new publishing house, which was created within the Mondadori Group with the aim of focusing on liberal and democratic thought, will debut on 5 September with an essay by Tony Blair on the art of governing, published simultaneously worldwide. «Silvio Berlusconi Editore», explains Marina Berlusconi, president of the group, «will have a very precise objective: to fight for the concept of freedom and give voice to its most varied declinations, while remaining absolutely distant from any form of political militancy ».
In the name of the father
Hence the choice to give «the name of my father, Silvio Berlusconi, because he based his projects, his achievements, his life on freedom. Without ever accepting compromises. Today, going back to talking about freedom is more important than ever. Our society, the Western one, appears increasingly threatened: let’s think about wars, the strengthening of autocratic regimes, the aversion that many of us demonstrate towards the values on which we have built our history, starting precisely from the most precious asset that we have, freedom. An asset that today we see called into question”, says the president of the Mondadori group. The activity of Silvio Berlusconi Editore will be based on a limited number of titles each year, divided into two series.
Tony Blair’s debut
The first, Library, will collect classic books, already recognized or destined to become so, to be translated for the first time or to be retranslated. Libera, the second series, will be dedicated to contemporary authors who deal with the open questions of current affairs. The publisher focuses on literature and non-fiction, Italian and foreign authors. The first title On Leadership. The art of governing by Tony Blair is a synthesis of leadership lessons resulting from the experience of years at the top of a great and ancient liberal democracy. A work that answers some fundamental questions: how to establish priorities and deal with crises? What is the best way to attract investment, to reform healthcare or education and to ensure the safety of citizens? And what should governments do to exploit the enormous opportunities of the technological revolution of the 21st century?
The titles in the series
Two classics in the Library series are also released at the same time: English Letters by Voltaire written between 1727 and 1728, during the author’s stay in England, translated for the first time from the language in which they were almost entirely written, English, and The past of an illusion by François Furet, historian known for his studies on the French Revolution and long-time director of the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris, who seeks to understand the influence that the communist idea has long had on Western intellectuals. Among the titles coming out in 2025, the world’s first translation of The end of the regime by the ancient philologist Alexander Baunov, a book that became a bestseller in his homeland as a symbol of resistance to Putin; the wise The days are numbered by Ernesto Galli della Loggia who addresses the state of the art of Western civilization without making any concessions. Also coming in 2025 Tissue Paper Boys by Walter Siti, curator of the works of Pier Paolo Pasolini and Premio Strega in 2013, e The bourgeois virtues, Bourgeois dignity And Bourgeois equalitythe titles of the Bourgeoisie trilogy by Deirdre N.
