Yesterday, the Confcommercio Lecco conference room was full
The author, Gianni Menicatti: “An atypical book, to be browsed, not read”. It mentions more than a thousand athletes, technicians, coaches and managers, over 300 companies
LECCO – Conference room of Confcommercio Lecco in full force for the presentation of book “Sport Lecchese. 100 years of events, characters and results” edited and created by the Lecco native Gianni Menicattipresented to the media last May 30th (item).
“An atypical book” as the author himself defined it “which year by year for 100 years, from 1920 to the present day, schematically recounts events, results and characters who have made the history of Lecco sport”.
“A book to leaf through, not to read”, highlighted Menicatti, with over 500 pages where they come cited more than a thousand athletes, technicians, coaches and managers, over 300 companies and, very usefully, there is also a search index by location thus also allowing consultation through the territorial focus.
The moderator of the presentation evening which took place yesterday, Wednesday (which is part of the calendar of “Leggermente”, an event organized by Assocultura Confcommercio Lecco) was the journalist Oscar Malugani. The accountant intervened before giving the floor to the author Alberto Miglietta who underlined the importance of sport in society and in life; Mario Rivapresident of the Regional Coni, Andrea Mauri president of Panathlon Lecco, an association that supported the work of Menicatti and the multiple Olympic champion from Lecco Antonio Rossi.
The book opens with a brief introduction with which, in the form of a story, it narrates the evolution of sport in Lecco, which took place in the second half of the 19th century, then the book reviews 100 years of Lecco sport from 1920 to 2021, telling them year by year year with news flash. The third part, historical statistics with results, data and much more, takes into consideration the over 50 sports disciplines that took place or involved Lecco citizens and Lecco clubs.
Menicatti’s work was powerful, achieved thanks to a long “bookworm” research effort, as he himself recalled last night, carried out by consulting books, archives of sports clubs, yearbooks of the various Sports Federations and contacting numerous people.
There are so many curiosities contained in this unique book which, we would add, a sports enthusiast, even more so if from Lecco, should have in their home library.
