I See People – Muzzopappa Exclusively on Storytel

It was released on Storytel on June 19th I see peoplethe first book of Francesco Muzzopappa to have been released as a listening exclusive. If indeed on Storytela subscription service for e-books and audiobooks, we can entertain ourselves with many of the author’s other books, I see people it is his first novel not to have been published in paper format. The choice echoes in some subtleties of the text, read by Alexander Tiberiuswith phrases such as “how can you feel” aimed at the public, which increase the immersion of listening and increase the sense of being in the company of a person who is telling us their personal story.

Plot

I see people tells the story of Lorenzo Scianna, a young and very erudite writer who lives the drama of indifference on the part of a public too bombarded by literary products to notice him. One evening, immersed in lucubrations on his own existential condition, he meets Franzan old childhood friend. By comparing himself with him and trying to help him in conquering his beloved, our Lorenzo comes across Nina Beijinga famous influencer at the beginning of her decline, with whom she probably has only two things in common: the fact that they are both human, and another thing, which I won’t tell you otherwise I would ruin the surprise.

Contents

Lorenzo’s story is told to us in eight sagacious episodes full of witin an open criticism of the saturated world of publishing. The story of I see people It’s light, a romantic comedy that is easy to listen to, with enough linearity to allow listening even when dealing with manual activities, but with enough irony and sarcasm to make the whole thing a very enjoyable background. Overall I found it not at all banal and balanced, with very sharp and engaging traits of originality.

All the events and the circumstances in which they occur led me to question myself about the point of view of “others”: if I could enter the story, I would like to take on the role of an observer and pay attention to the expressions of those who find themselves in the background of the events. What went through the minds of the extras? The doubt is probably induced, not innate: Lorenzo tells us his story directly, wondering himself what “people” are thinking. Dear Lorenzo, I wonder that too.

Compared to other books by Muzzopappa (which I have always listened to on Storytel, except for a couple, of which I have also read the paper version), I admit that I see people It took him a little longer to catch me. Probably because Lorenzo Scianna does not represent the prototype of a friendly person with whom I would get alongand at the time I found him a bit unpleasant.

As it happens with the best stories, however, at a certain point that spark ignited that he knew how to capture me and lead me to a binge-listening (exists?) with which I reached the end very quickly. Also thanks to Franz, a character about whom I won’t go into detail so as not to ruin your listening experience, but whose nature and extroversion reminded me of similar friends who I stopped seeing as I grew up. Perhaps one day when I am at a standstill, a similar meeting will be equally providential?

Storytel exists both as a website and as an app (which is how I usually use it). At standard speed (i.e. 1.ox), listening to I see people It lasts almost 9 hours (to be precise, 08 hours 58 minutes and 17 seconds!), but I personally found it more enjoyable slightly sped up. On the app you can customize the listening speed, which for this particular work I set to 1.2x.

In conclusion

I see people it is an episodic novel that entertained and amused me, making me reflect and pushing me to comment out loud on what was happening. The fun doesn’t come so much from the story or the story, but from the lexical choice of the narration. One of the reasons why I consider Muzzopappa an intelligent author is the asides with which he enriches the stories of his characters. A distinctive feature of his works is the calibrated use of analogies, metaphors and comparisons of what happens with something apparently distant, but which reveals a profound commonality, brought to light by lateral thinking applied with wit.

If you are looking for a pleasant and not too demanding listenI highly recommend it (especially if you have enjoyed other books by the same author) Heidi e Tooth by tooth).
